Kohl Award Winners Named, Seven Awardees from Diocesan Catholic Schools

(March 22, 2018) -- The selection committee for the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Scholarship, Fellowship and Leadership Program has announced recipients of the 2018 Herb Kohl Foundation awards for students, teachers, and principals. The awards are being made to 100 teachers and their schools, 16 principals and their schools, and 191 graduating high school students from the state of Wisconsin.

This year's awardees feature seven recipients from Catholic schools in the Diocese of Green Bay: one principal, two teachers, and four students.

"The Catholic Schools Office is delighted to announce the 2018 Kohl awardees from the Green Bay Diocese," said Sister Kay Klackner, OSF, and Consultant to Catholic Schools. "We are proud of the achievements of our students, teachers, and principals. Their accomplishments highlight the daily and continued quality Catholic education provided by our schools. Congratulations to each awardee! We are blessed to have such hardworking individuals represent the quality education found in our Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Green Bay."

Award Recipients

Excellence in School Leadership ($6,000 personal award, $6,000 for school) -- Recipients of the new Leadership Award are school principals who are being recognized for setting high standards for instruction, achievement, and character and for creating a climate to best serve students, families, staff, and community

  • Mike Mauthe, St. Francis Xavier High School, Appleton

Teacher Fellowship Winners (each $6,000 personal award, $6,000 for school) -- Recipients are educators who have been chosen for their superior ability to inspire a love of learning in their students, their ability to motivate others, and their leadership and service within and outside the classroom.

  • Kelly Carter, Lourdes Academy High School, Oshkosh
  • Abby Linwood, St. Clare Catholic School, Wrightstown

Student Excellence Winners (each $10,000 college scholarship) -- Recipients have demonstrated excellence in the academic arena and high motivation to achieve, have displayed a broad range of activity and leadership outside the academic setting, and have shown strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond.

  • Macy Dueno, Roncalli High School, Manitowoc
  • Evan Mihalakakos, Roncalli High School, Manitowoc

Student Initiative Winner (each $10,000 college scholarship) -- Recipients, chosen by their schools, have demonstrated exceptional initiative in the classroom and have shown strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond, but have not yet received other academic-based scholarships.

  • Kevin Kroeger, Roncalli High School, Manitowoc
  • Noah Johnson, St. Mary High School, Neenah

Regional Recognition Luncheons
