Greetings from the Vocation Director

Continuing a "Culture of Vocation" in the Diocese of Green Bay

FrDSchusterOn October 1, 2018, Fr. Mark Mleziva became the Vocation Director for the Diocese of Green Bay.  He begins this important work with much enthusiasm and passion to help young people to know their vocation from God.  He hopes to continue the great work done by his predecessor Fr. Dan Schuster who is returning to parish life after serving in this ministry for eight years.  Prior to this, Fr. Mark was assigned as the Parochial Vicar at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Manitowoc, WI, as well as chaplain to Roncalli High School.

The position of Vocation Director can be broken down into two areas. The first area involves helping those called to the priesthood apply to the seminary.  Accompaniment, prayer, and open dialogue are all necessary for this first area in order to ensure that God is truly calling this young man to holy orders. The second area entails helping those who are already in seminary to continue to discern their call.  The Vocation Director is in continual dialogue, prayer, and accompaniment here as well as the call to priesthood is already discerned with the seminarian and the Church.

If you or someone you know is thinking about priesthood, please have them contact Fr. Mark in order to start the discussion.  If someone is strongly thinking about priesthood and needs a place to discern that call more deeply, there is the possibility of living at the Xavier House of Discernment. In addition, Fr. Quinn Mann, the Associate Vocation Director and Director of Catholic Youth Expeditions, is also available to speak with regarding the priesthood.

Making a Sincere Gift of Self

FrQMann"Man most fully discovers himself only through a sincere gift of himself" (Gaudium et Spes). As a Catholic priest, I have come to know this in a very real way.

Priesthood has afforded me many opportunities to make a gift of myself. It has been through this sincere gift that my life has become animated in such a way that I am compelled to share the Gospel message.

Being a priest has given me a glimpse of the human capacity to love and the victory over sin over death.

The most edifying gift of priesthood has been the celebration of the holy sacrifice of the Mass. The Holy Eucharist is the greatest gift given to the world and as a priest, you are called by God to bring Jesus Christ to the world through simple gifts of bread and wine, gifts that become the body and blood of Christ.

I challenge you to discover yourself by making a gift of yourself. Men are called by God to lay down their lives as Christ layed down His life. Priesthood is a great gift to the world and I encourage you to discover it for yourself!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Fr. Quinn Mann
Associate Vocation Director
