Bishop Ricken to host Prayer Service for Healing Apr. 10 and Apr. 11
GREEN BAY, Wis. (Mar. 28, 2019) – Bishop David Ricken will preside at two “Prayer Services for Healing” for all those in need of healing from the Church, especially people affected by sexual abuse. They will take place Wednesday, April 10, at St. Anthony Parish in Tigerton and Thursday, April 11, at St. Matthew Parish in Green Bay. Both services begin at 6:30 p.m.
“This is a way for us to say to the Lord and to you that we acknowledge the hurt that has been caused,” said Bishop David L. Ricken. “We know this kind of trauma causes deep emotional wounds, and when sexual abuse happens within the Church, it also causes spiritual wounds that some people struggle with every day, especially people who were harmed as children. My hope is that this prayer service leads to deeper and deeper healing for you.”
Held during April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month, these healing prayer services are intended for all those in need of healing from the Church and for others to come together as members of the Church to pray for those in need of healing. All are invited, including survivors of sexual abuse, friends and family members of survivors, and other caring persons.
“The prayer service is meant to recognize the reality of the hurt and harm that has been caused by some in the Church and to pray for healing for those harmed and for healing for the Church,” said Deacon Dan Wagnitz, safe environment coordinator for the Diocese of Green Bay. “Past healing services have empowered some people to come forward and share their painful experiences and to take steps in the journey of healing.
