GREEN BAY, Wis. (June 5, 2024) – The Diocese of Green Bay is pleased to host Jesus in the Eucharist as the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage makes its way through northeast Wisconsin along the Marian Route, June 12- 18 and on to the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, IN, July 17-21.

The National Eucharistic Pilgrimage is one facet of the National Eucharistic Revival movement—a joyful, expectant, grassroots response of the Church in the United States to the divine invitation to be united once again around the source and summit of our faith: the celebration of the Eucharist. Through the Eucharist, we believe God desires to heal, renew, and unify the Church and the world.

On May 17, 2024, the Eucharistic Pilgrimage began its epic journey from the four edges of the country: north from the Mississippi headwaters at Lake Itasca, MN; south from Brownsville, TX; east from New Haven, CT; and west from San Francisco, CA. Small groups of young adult pilgrims are traveling with Jesus in the Eucharist across our whole country for the next two months, blessing over 6,000 miles of our country in the shape of a cross. The gathering in Indianapolis is the 10th National Eucharistic Congress, the last undertaken in the U.S. 83 years ago.

Here in the Diocese of Green Bay, we will host the traveling pilgrims entrusted with Jesus in the Eucharist beginning Wednesday, June 12. The Eucharist will transfer over at that time from the Diocese of La Crosse during a Holy Hour at Holy Family-St. William Catholic Church, 202 N Ellms St, Wittenberg, WI at 11:00 am. The day continues with Holy Hour at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 407 S. Warrington Avenue, Cecil, WI at 2:30 pm. A walking procession from the church to the local boat launch follows, leading to a boat flotilla around the shores of Shawano Lake and on to Camp Tekakwitha for a private event with campers.

The pilgrimage’s signature event begins with Mass celebrated by Bishop David L. Ricken on Sunday, June 16 at 2:00 pm at The National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion, 4047 Chapel Drive New Franken, WI, the first and only approved Marian apparition site in the United States. The Marian Route is named in honor of Our Lady of Champion and her apparition in Wisconsin. Mass is followed by a 1.7-mile Eucharistic rosary procession around the grounds, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, light desserts and refreshments.

Transfer of Jesus in the Eucharist to Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki and the faithful of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee takes place on Tuesday, July 18 during a 5:00 pm Mass at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 423 Fremont Street Kiel, WI. Both Bishop Ricken and Archbishop Listecki plan to celebrate this Mass.
