GREEN BAY, Wis. (Sept. 27, 2018) – The Diocese of Green Bay announced today it has entered into an agreement with the independent investigative firm Defenbaugh & Associates, Inc. (D&A, Inc.), Kaufman, Texas, to conduct an outside review of the files of all Priests and Deacons who have served in the diocese.
In compliance with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, the diocese continuously examines its files and conducts reviews annually. As we work to assure all clergy abuse cases have been identified and objectively reviewed, the diocese has arranged for D&A, Inc., who specializes in this kind of work, to review files beginning in early October.
Danny Defenbaugh will be leading the review. He was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for almost 33 years. Defenbaugh has testified as either an expert witness or investigator over 100 times in federal, state, and local courts, to include the U.S. Congress and Military Tribunals. He is the only FBI Agent to receive two Attorney General Awards. In 1983, he received the Attorney General's Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement. In 1998, he received the Attorney General's Award for Exceptional Service for his management of the Oklahoma City bombing investigation. Defenbaugh received the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive in 1999.
Danny Defenbaugh owns Defenbaugh & Associates, Inc., a security consultant and investigations company specializing in Due Diligence, Security Vulnerability Assessments, and investigations. Their Security Study Team (SST) has over 200 years of combined actual operational and managerial experience in the Federal, State, and Local Public Safety sectors. D&A Inc., prides itself as a security consultant and investigations company specializing in due diligence.
When completed, the findings will be reported to the Diocesan Independent Review Board and the Chancellor.
